Tim Corbin, head baseball coach at 2014 College World Series Champion Vanderbilt University, gets real honest as he shares some inside information on coaching and recruiting for a Division I college. This is Part 2 of a two-part interview with Tim. This week, I answer a question about where to position a fourth outfielder. And Austin Wasserman of WassermanStrength.com discusses the importance of knowing a young player's lifestyle profile in Wass Strength's Tip Of The Week.

In this 39-minute episode, you'll learn:

  • whether Tim is is more hands-on or hands-off when coaching
  • how much game-planning Tim does
  • what Tim's practices are like
  • whether the focus is more teaching or more reps
  • how much teaching Tim does as opposed to his assistants
  • how to maximize field usage between live hitters and different defensive groups
  • what separates a great coach from a good coach
  • how to build a consistently successful program
  • how to balance winning with process
  • how much mental game is addressed, and how it's handled at Vanderbilt
  • what the Omaha Challenge is, and why Tim uses it for his team
  • whether the Omaha Challenge is appropriate for youth and high school teams

  • whether potential should be valued higher than accomplishment in a recruit
  • why recruiting is still not fool-proof from the school's perspective
  • whether college coaches really look at players' recruiting videos
  • whether Tim values pitchers more or hitters more
